fast update

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

OOOkie… for those of you who have been complaining about my "long-windedness" in my blogs…. Here’s a fast update of my situation….

Due to unforseen circumstances…. I am sad to say that I’m no longer going to NewZealand for my masters…. but have shifted to going to UK, and if all goes well, during the end of september. Though this is also a tentative plan as I am currently quite cynical and depressed about the 2 failed applications to NewZ thus I’m not putting all my eggs into THAT basket anymore. So if this doesn’t work out, we’ll see what’s going to happen…..

What I DO know is that I’ll be going to KL this 26th of July till the 4th of Aug. So for those of you in KL, any of you free at the time? We can meet up…. Sean? Amy? Jackson? I know the Uni friends are game *grin* (thanks guys~!)

Anyway, hopefully this time I get to actually GO somewhere…. hope that the KL trip won’t in anyway effect my application stuff… seeing that there’s a lot to be done for those damn things…. *sigh*

cameras Evon~!!

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Weiwei… I forgot which of your threads in your blog u asked about cameras.. so I’ll just put it here… *grin* malas look for it ma~ Haha.. u know me la….

Anyway, u asked about the canon EOS350 right? Well.. I’ve heard that it’s a relatively good camera… it’s price here in Malaysia is RM3300 (last I heard la..) So i think it’s cheaper here.. but not sure if it includes the lenses or just the body. If the offer you have includes the lens, then it’s quite a good deal la. Coz the lens is usually quite expensive…. but most cameras come with the basic lens, unless u need longer lens to photograph wildlife or stuff like that.

But apart from that, EOS350 is also rivaled by pentax *ist DS, Nikon D70 and Olympus E-300. Don’t know what the pentax price is, I think slightly cheaper, but nikon is slightly more expensive, while the olympus is also slightly cheaper. Each of the cameras have their pros and cons. All of them are 6.1MP and above.

If you’re thinking of super budget ones, the Olympus E500 is one good choice. It has a relatively slow start up time (1-2 seconds) but it’s because it has the Super Sonic Wave Filter, that shakes when it’s switched on and shakes off the dust from the lens so you don’t have to worry about the very annoying dust particles in the photos. Problem is that it’s a bit weaker in high ISOs. Not too bad, but a bit weaker than the rest…. This really is super budget coz the price was RM2999 half a year ago… so now should be around RM2500, max…

I think there’s a new model for olympus called E330… that’s not a good deal. Just get the E300, costs a lot less but the functions are basically the same, except that you can look through the viewfinder for the ‘live’ shots, which is new for SLRs. Not really that fantastic.

The other cameras you can consider is also the Nikon D50 (RM3118) or the Konica Minolta Dynax 5D (RM3299). These 2 are the budget kings. Tell me if you want more info on these other ones.

If your budget not so high, you can look for prosumer cameras. They are like semi slrs… have u seen my camera? That’s it. Smaller and lighter, but less handling offered. But it’s also cheaper. Good for semi pros.. and students. There are a lot of choices for these with price ranges from RM1500 to RM3500…. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 (rm2499)… was told this is rated the best of the prosumer cameras for the past half year… still is.. so good to take a look. Not very pretty looking though~ Hahhahaa….

Or the others are:

panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 (RM2199)
Sony DSC-R1 (RM4499) -most expensive, but closest to a SLR. best sony cam…
or Sony DSC-F828 (RM3599, but should be cheaper now… coz dunno new price)
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 (RM1799)
Konica Minolta DiMage A200 (RM2599)

And again, for more info ask me for the individual pros and cons. Or you can online to look for reviews. Should have a lot of them around. Look for their ratings by users…. that’s the best way to see if the camera should fit you. U should also think of what you’ll be primarily shooting, and buy a camera that has the best functions for that. There’s not camera out there that’s perfect… just ones that are better suited for something, while others for something else.

KK trip~

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

P1010009As I’ve said in the previous post… back from KK. This trip was… rather exciting…. *grin* The day we drove over to KK started off as usual, rather a bit ahead of schedual, in fact. But just about 4 something 5 pm around 25km(?) from KK, the road was heavily flooded, as you can see from the photos…. What u see in the photo in which u might mistake as a river is actually the road towards KK, but was flooded around 1km from where we were. The cars had detoured towards the opposite road (were we were while I took this photo in the middle of another jam and pileup from accidents due to the terrible vision, flood and overall chaos) Saw lots of cars with dents and scrathes, some ‘died’ in the middle of the road because their engines were flooded by the water. It was quite unpassable by cars, even great big honking 4wheel drives like ours. A bit up front even this side was flooded, so all of us had to make a U turn, P1010012causing even more chaos and accidents. The police truck you see in the photo turned back as well, even THAT was no able to pass…. saw 1 car braving the water, and that was a safari 4 wheel drive, with the exhaust up on top of the front window, quite made for this kind of situations… so no worries for THEM… even though the water was up to the body of the car….. Apparently, that is a usual occurance when it rains heavily there….. It’s not just this spot, there were several other spots up front, as well as other places like Mengalung. The water wouldn’t reced for at least 3-4 hours, according to the locals. So we decided to try another road we’ve never been before (never in heard of before, but called around to ask for help from our relatives who happen to be in the road constructing field…) After much excitment and near accidents driving either up the road island or off it entirely and into a ditch (due to really really bad vision, darken sky, no street light, head on lights from other cars and still heavy rain) as well as a few dubious times of going off the wrong road and having to turn back and follow the crowd…. (no road signs, u see) We managed to get to familiar ground (Near Uni Malaysia Sabah) and thus semi safely (had to watch out for the half flooded roads still… even in town) ended up at my aunties house where we were to stay for the week. It was 9pm ++ when we arrived.

Giantsmall1The days after that was relatively tame considering. Still rained pretty much everyday though.

Had a grand time there, specially since there are 2 fantastic dogs to play with…. Giant and Miko. I’m sure you can tell which is which from the photos~! *grin* Miko had the opportunity to go for a car ride to my cousin’s new apartment for a house warming party, I got to carry her there…. wriggly little thing~ *double grin* Licks your face whenever u get close enough to her tongue. Giant is very lick-a-ty as well…. He’s so big his licks wet your entire hand (and toes, which is in easy reach, as I tend to favour sandals….*sigh*) Giant is really Mikosmall1playfull, possible THE most even tempered dog I have ever met!!!!! He’s only a pup still…. about 1 and a half years old (?) with the bushiest tail not on a squirrel…. *smirk* I like to play with THAT…. it’s like a waggly feather duster… Hehehehe….

P1010056Celebrated my birthday in KK as well. Had cake (very very nice cake~!! Thanks 5yee~!! ) Recieved some pressies as well… *grin* Hm… 24 year old now…

Oh well… 6 more years till I’m officially overaged for the working holiday program~! Hahahaha…..
