Weiwei… I forgot which of your threads in your blog u asked about cameras.. so I’ll just put it here… *grin* malas look for it ma~ Haha.. u know me la….
Anyway, u asked about the canon EOS350 right? Well.. I’ve heard that it’s a relatively good camera… it’s price here in Malaysia is RM3300 (last I heard la..) So i think it’s cheaper here.. but not sure if it includes the lenses or just the body. If the offer you have includes the lens, then it’s quite a good deal la. Coz the lens is usually quite expensive…. but most cameras come with the basic lens, unless u need longer lens to photograph wildlife or stuff like that.
But apart from that, EOS350 is also rivaled by pentax *ist DS, Nikon D70 and Olympus E-300. Don’t know what the pentax price is, I think slightly cheaper, but nikon is slightly more expensive, while the olympus is also slightly cheaper. Each of the cameras have their pros and cons. All of them are 6.1MP and above.
If you’re thinking of super budget ones, the Olympus E500 is one good choice. It has a relatively slow start up time (1-2 seconds) but it’s because it has the Super Sonic Wave Filter, that shakes when it’s switched on and shakes off the dust from the lens so you don’t have to worry about the very annoying dust particles in the photos. Problem is that it’s a bit weaker in high ISOs. Not too bad, but a bit weaker than the rest…. This really is super budget coz the price was RM2999 half a year ago… so now should be around RM2500, max…
I think there’s a new model for olympus called E330… that’s not a good deal. Just get the E300, costs a lot less but the functions are basically the same, except that you can look through the viewfinder for the ‘live’ shots, which is new for SLRs. Not really that fantastic.
The other cameras you can consider is also the Nikon D50 (RM3118) or the Konica Minolta Dynax 5D (RM3299). These 2 are the budget kings. Tell me if you want more info on these other ones.
If your budget not so high, you can look for prosumer cameras. They are like semi slrs… have u seen my camera? That’s it. Smaller and lighter, but less handling offered. But it’s also cheaper. Good for semi pros.. and students. There are a lot of choices for these with price ranges from RM1500 to RM3500…. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 (rm2499)… was told this is rated the best of the prosumer cameras for the past half year… still is.. so good to take a look. Not very pretty looking though~ Hahhahaa….
Or the others are:
panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 (RM2199)
Sony DSC-R1 (RM4499) -most expensive, but closest to a SLR. best sony cam…
or Sony DSC-F828 (RM3599, but should be cheaper now… coz dunno new price)
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 (RM1799)
Konica Minolta DiMage A200 (RM2599)
And again, for more info ask me for the individual pros and cons. Or you can online to look for reviews. Should have a lot of them around. Look for their ratings by users…. that’s the best way to see if the camera should fit you. U should also think of what you’ll be primarily shooting, and buy a camera that has the best functions for that. There’s not camera out there that’s perfect… just ones that are better suited for something, while others for something else.
