cameras Evon~!!
Weiwei… I forgot which of your threads in your blog u asked about cameras.. so I’ll just put it here… *grin* malas look for it ma~ Haha.. u know me la….
Anyway, u asked about the canon EOS350 right? Well.. I’ve heard that it’s a relatively good camera… it’s price here in Malaysia is RM3300 (last I heard la..) So i think it’s cheaper here.. but not sure if it includes the lenses or just the body. If the offer you have includes the lens, then it’s quite a good deal la. Coz the lens is usually quite expensive…. but most cameras come with the basic lens, unless u need longer lens to photograph wildlife or stuff like that.
But apart from that, EOS350 is also rivaled by pentax *ist DS, Nikon D70 and Olympus E-300. Don’t know what the pentax price is, I think slightly cheaper, but nikon is slightly more expensive, while the olympus is also slightly cheaper. Each of the cameras have their pros and cons. All of them are 6.1MP and above.
If you’re thinking of super budget ones, the Olympus E500 is one good choice. It has a relatively slow start up time (1-2 seconds) but it’s because it has the Super Sonic Wave Filter, that shakes when it’s switched on and shakes off the dust from the lens so you don’t have to worry about the very annoying dust particles in the photos. Problem is that it’s a bit weaker in high ISOs. Not too bad, but a bit weaker than the rest…. This really is super budget coz the price was RM2999 half a year ago… so now should be around RM2500, max…
I think there’s a new model for olympus called E330… that’s not a good deal. Just get the E300, costs a lot less but the functions are basically the same, except that you can look through the viewfinder for the ‘live’ shots, which is new for SLRs. Not really that fantastic.
The other cameras you can consider is also the Nikon D50 (RM3118) or the Konica Minolta Dynax 5D (RM3299). These 2 are the budget kings. Tell me if you want more info on these other ones.
If your budget not so high, you can look for prosumer cameras. They are like semi slrs… have u seen my camera? That’s it. Smaller and lighter, but less handling offered. But it’s also cheaper. Good for semi pros.. and students. There are a lot of choices for these with price ranges from RM1500 to RM3500…. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 (rm2499)… was told this is rated the best of the prosumer cameras for the past half year… still is.. so good to take a look. Not very pretty looking though~ Hahhahaa….
Or the others are:
panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 (RM2199)
Sony DSC-R1 (RM4499) -most expensive, but closest to a SLR. best sony cam…
or Sony DSC-F828 (RM3599, but should be cheaper now… coz dunno new price)
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 (RM1799)
Konica Minolta DiMage A200 (RM2599)
And again, for more info ask me for the individual pros and cons. Or you can online to look for reviews. Should have a lot of them around. Look for their ratings by users…. that’s the best way to see if the camera should fit you. U should also think of what you’ll be primarily shooting, and buy a camera that has the best functions for that. There’s not camera out there that’s perfect… just ones that are better suited for something, while others for something else.

Wow !! Thanks for the explanations !! yeah !! I still dunno much about the cameras yet !! you know a lot more better than me!
You know what?? last few days i receive email from my photography tutor…becoz last time i asked him about cameras also..
and he said that from my email im clueless about photography, and he advised me not to take photography as my major next year or else he afraid that i will fail ..T-T
I was so stress and tension when i read what he said…so now i am still asking myself whether i am suitable take photography or not???!!!
I am photography “bai Che”…know nothing about photography…nothing…so now im still blurred !!! so i guess i need to read some basic books about photography first before i can ask you more about the cameras thing !!
Pai se….
Hrmmmmm…how about Canon 30D???? do they have that model??i heard my lecturer said about that also….i dunno i tell the name right or not..but i heard something 30 lar on Canon model….

canon 30D?? Err… Canon EOS 20D I know la… Maybe have but I dunno lor~! Canon EOS 20D RM 6299 now…
Well… photography is quite hard… coz even if u think is nice maybe someone else dun think so. And also a lot of technics… and differnt types, like portrait la, landscape la, studio work la, graphic la, closeup (mirco) shots la… also a lot of compositions to think about…. But it’s your interest de lor… I think best is that u take some of your photos and show it to your lecturer…. see what he thinks and if he thinks you should take it next sem. If u have the eye for photography. This can be trained, but some people just have the knack to shoot great photos….
If you take photography, your photoshop also has to be very strong lor.
Actually, I think the best book for beginers is the Digital Photography for Dummies. It’s actually quite comprehensive and has information from camera hardware to shooting composition and even lighting… so try to look for that in the library and read over. Take a few shots around and try to find what kind of photography u prefer… play around with different styles…. have to explore a lot… and take a LOT of photos… But I’m warning u la.. photography is very expensive…. better liao after using digital cam, but still u have to develope the photos and stills… and u’ll also have to ask if you take photography what kind of camera is the requirement… coz I know some of the classes u must have SLR not DSLR… so you must learn how to develope the photos yourself. I did that during second year… have to sendiri go to the photo studio in uni to ‘wash’ the black and white photos.. but very syok la~! hahaha… learn a lot there…

even the damn film is expensive… the “slides”… but damn nice… the colour… whoooo~!!
June 23rd, 2006 at 7:41 am
ya ya….but money is not the issue here!! imagine how much you have to pay for the damn uni every sem ah??? those films and all that still can mampu lo….at least i can still makan instant noodle to save my money for the photography expenses lo…if money is the issue to stopu from learning photography, then i guess many people have stop learning or jadi photographer liao…u get what i mean??
the most important thing here is….am i qualified or not..coz my lecturer warns me that it’s not as easy as i think…
and i know,…..but if i can cope with it…why not??!!
June 23rd, 2006 at 7:43 am
but if like u said….very hard and struggle hard for it….should i just give up??!! or give it a try first??!! im still confuse…

The reason the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 looks ugly is because…
Panasonic bought over Leica, and are using the same ‘antique Leica camera’ styling.
Leica does have the best lens of any prosumer camera though.
I have the Lumix FX09, and the lens is sharp, and the thing oozes quality. The only problem with the camera is the graininess, which must be from the settings- because the motion videos + simple mode pics I took are damn sharp.
Haven’t figured out what causes the graininess in custom shots. Not the ISO. And both my photographer friends are still puzzled.

Oh, and the FX09 costs RM130, after I added in the 1GB memory card, and extra stuff. This is because its successor has just come out. But your tutor will scream at you if you get a FX09, because the aperture is damn small.
As to whether or not she should take photography… Depends on how determined she is. I took Counselling / Psychotherapy for my degree’s elective even though I had absolutely no related experience, and I passed, and had a good time.
Adn if you don’t want to STUDY photography, you can still by a consumer-grade camera, and snap on your own.

Typo… RM1300. No way it’s going to be RM130.
June 25th, 2006 at 6:13 pm
well… yeah~ u have to see if u really want to try la~ As I said, best try to take something of a portfolio of your previous photos and go ask the lecturer personally… that way he can see your photos and maybe guide u in it.. ask HIM should u try it la. But ultimately u have to make up your mind if u want to take it up… ANY of the subjects is not going to be easy…. these stuff are trainable… but would you enjoy it after having to work so darn hard at it just to pass is another matter la. Anyone can take a camera and snap photos… but the technic and the compositions and the lighting, all those you will learn lor.
Personally I found it to be really fun~ Had a really really hard time while I took the courses…. but it was really cool. When you’re actually doing it, you’d probably be cursing yourself why u took it, but afterwards… I think the results make it worthwhile~

hmm.. dunno about your grainyness…. usually is the ISO.. is it set to 50? (or anything less than 300….) .. or maybe the lighting? I know some compacs have light settings… like flouracent, sunlight, night.. stuff like that… but if you’re using manual, then that shouldn’t effect it at all… hmm… if it a cam malfunction?
